The Royal Belgian Association for Energy (KBVE-SRBE) is pleased to invite you to an exclusive seminar: “Ensuring industrial Competitiveness on the way to net zero”, taking place on Friday, June 6th, 2025, at VBO-FEB rue Ravensteinstraat 4 in Brussels.
With the European Green Deal, the Belgian industry was slowly but steadily finding a way forward towards net zero, in which it could remain competitive at a global level. In this seminar we will explore how the latest global economics have changed the art of the green deal.
Why attend?
This seminar brings together policy and industrial leaders and pioneers who will give you their insights on the current state of affairs and on possible ways to regain the momentum of the European Green Deal.
The seminar will open with a broad economic perspective from Professor Rudy Aernoudt, currently professor of economics at the University of Ghent and the University of Nancy, and lecturer at the BMI Executive Institute (HEC Paris and Louvain Management School). With previous roles including Head of Economy at the European Commission and Chief of Staff to Belgian Ministers of Economy, he brings a unique blend of academic and policy insight.
He will be joined by Nancy Mahieu, Director General Energy at the Federal Public Service Economy, with broad recognized expertise in energy and active engagement at national and international ministerial sessions. Her federal-level perspective adds a crucial policy dimension to the discussion.
Complementing these economic and policy viewpoints, Pieter-Jan “PJ” Provoost—Director of Energy Tech Belgium (Agoria), member of the World Energy Council, and Chair of the Belgian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council—will highlight how Belgium’s energy and technology ecosystem can support industry in this transition.
They will be joined by fellow rebel visionaries and pioneers from the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Nyrstar, Synergrid, Storm, Entras and Sweco.
Agenda highlights:
- Keynote speech by rebel, white knight and whistle blower professor Rudy Aernoudts
- The advantages and disadvantages of the Belgian industry on the way to net zero
- Case studies and challenges from the industry
- Keynote speech by energy, technology and geopolictics interpretationalist PJ Provoost
